Hey, Louisville history nerds — Happy New Year!
Start the year off right by going to the Filson Historical Society to see Peter Scott Campbell, author of The Quotable Brandeis (Legal History).
Louis Brandeis was a pretty badass Supreme. He was a lawyer from Louisville, who was the first Jew on the U.S. Supreme Court (nominated by Pres. Woodrow Wilson). He’s been called “The People’s Lawyer” and even a “Robin Hood of the law.”
He’s often quoted, but those quotes are not always correct. Campbell will discuss the correct and incorrect quotes attributed to Brandeis.
Campbell is a librarian and archivist at the University of Louisville and runs a blog, Brandeis and Harlan Watch.
Check out his blog and buy his book. I’m going to buy it, myself. And I might go to the lecture, if I can.
The event is free to Filson members and $10 for non-members. Get tickets.
